Are they BBS mesh-ies?

Are you the fella that was telling me about the subframe strengthening? Think so. How's the Capri coming along?

Theyre actually just cheapie BBS copies made by PRIME. We can't find tires for the 13" BBS wheels that came on the car. The real ones are even stamped with FORD in the center section. That's how we know they were on it when it was raced.

Kinja'd!!!

And yes, I am the Capri guy. Its kinda stalled because I got the donor car, but it turned out to be kinda nice, so I've decided that put the Capri on hold until I either get tired of the SHO or find another engine.

Oh sweet those 235's would look mint under the capri. I've got a set of "Delta's" on the Corty. Don't know what their design is called but look like this, except mine are 4 stud and 13" with 205/60 if I remember.

Kinja'd!!!

Im having the same issues, getting tyre's are a bitch. Its got a set of Toyo RA1's on there at the moment but they'd be stale by now. Looking to swap to a 15" for tyre price. It's not a corner carver, so wheel combo isn't as important as in your case. Haha the Corty has been put on the back burner too, my daily (GQ patrol SWB) has some issues so funds are being funneled into that. If the parts getter is broken, the Corty can't progress.

those are really cool looking wheels. And the JPS does look good with 13". Its a picture of a picture, but this was just after my father bought it in Germany in '89. That's him polishing said wheels.

That rear dish is giving me a horn. Did your Dad have the diff shortened at some point?

Wow did your Father buy it in Germany then ship it to where you are now? That's pretty cool if he did. Adds a shit tonne of sentiment to the car.

Ahem, here goes.

Both of my parents are Canadian Army, they met on a posting in Cypress, and they happened to both be posted back to London Ontario after the tour was over, (the shit storm between the Turkish and the Greeks is still going down over there, but that's for another time.) My dad has been a car nut for the longest time, hes had big block Torinos, 2 of which he still has, one of them hes had since he was 17.

In late 1989 he and my mother get posted to CFB Lahr in southern Germany, just outside the Black Forest. At the time, my parents only had 2 cars, my dads 1970 Ford Torino GT convertible, which they wisely left in Canada on account of it being a massive pig, and a 1981 Mazda GLC, or a 323 as it was known elsewhere. The Mazda went to Germany with them, but they needed another car, so they bought a 1976 Ford Capri with a 2.3L Cologne V6.

One day my dad was out having some damn fine beer with his friend, ( who's name I wont even pretend to know how to pronounce, let alone spell), and my dad was going on and on about how great this little white Capri was. He wanted to ship it back to Canada. Friend goes, " no no, I'll show you a car you want to take home."

They show up the house where the car is located, and there is a '63 fuelie 'Vette, just chillin' on the front lawn next to a brand new Mercedes Benz. Father and Friend are thinking, Shit, this is gonna be expensive. So, the owner of the car takes my dad out for a test drive on the Autobahn and my father is driving along at 120kph or so. The owner goes, "well, come on, put your foot in it!" Except he said it in German.

So he floors it, the car pins the speedo at 220kph, and he's barely hit the top of fourth. He backs out of it when he drops it in fifth.

They bring the car back to the owners house, and he tells my father to park the car over a pit in the garage floor. He then procedes to get out and start washing the bottom of the car with soap and water. That shows you how well this car has been taken care of. They struck a deal and about 9000 Deutsche Marks, which i think was around six grand US at the time.

The car lived in an old carriage shop in the village where my parents lived in until 1994, when they were posted back to Canada. The Mazda came back same as before since it went over with them, and the JPS came back in a 20 foot sea container that contained the car and ever single spare part the previous owner had accumulated. The original triple carb setup and DTM rollcage were even included.

The car has been vintage raced and autocrossed ever since.

By the way, its one of 50 (#46) to be built as race cars for the German Touring Car Series by Krabb Racing of Germany. Sorta the same idea as a Shelby Mustang, new car goes straight to the race shop.

As for the diff, its a Ford 7.5" with a racing posi, stock size for a Capri, but it actually has 1/2" Spacers on both sides with the 15" Primes since they have different back spacing than the old BBSs. One winter project is to fit an 8.8" out of a fox mustang, so it has a disc brake conversion and more options for rear gears. He's lunched a few of those little 7.5s.

Ive got a similar size diff atm, its a bw75 not the strongest but will do me for the time being with the dirty old xflow 6. Maybe its just the photo but the back spacing looks huge. Don't think we got anything over here with an 8.8, unless its the same as what's called an 8 3/4 here. Dunno? but a mate reached deep into the 10's with an 8 3/4 in a 3800lbs fairlane, 60's weren't anything great but still coped the abuse well. Until it lunched, then replaced with a nodular 9 rah rah rah big bucks. So if they're the same it should last in the Capri. That's what I've been thinking of using instead of the 9, loose the "9 inches are the ultimate" tax with similar strength levels. But that's way way down the road for me.

I thik the 8.8 could be called an8 3/4, but the reason we want to use that is the 9" is SUPER heavy unless you get an after market one welded out of plate and that's big bucks. A Nine inch is kinda over kill for this thing. Last time it was on dyno it made 300 HP on the dot at the rear wheels and almost 400 pounds of torque. Pretty stout for a 2.8L V6, but not enough to justify a narrowed 9".

The nine inch is also about 4 inches too wide, even with the 6" fender flares on the back. That's probably why the back of the car looks so beefy between the 6" inch flares and super wide wheels.

The nice thing about being here in Canada, is that you can still find tons of junk nines in the wrecking yards too. Truck, full size cars, hell Crown Vic cop cars had nines with LSDs. We have three behind the garage, and one is a factory Detroit Locker for the Cobra Jet GT.

Yeah aye, no point going stronger if you're going backwards with weight. Its a shame that a lot of the big American cars never really came over here. Anything Detroit related costs a fortune. You'd be lucky to find old Clevo's, Windsors and c4's at the wreckers let along anything performed wise from that era, and if there was they'd be selling for a premium. Its funny I was watching something on Curry/Currie (sp) diffs and they showed a mountain of 9"s and said they used them in golf carts.

Nice power figures from that 6. Are they one of those Essex v6's. Over here they did a trial run of a few tc Cortinas with them in it before putting in the local six to see the reaction. Love the speed holes in the bumper ettes. Is that what the door skins look like too?

Its a 2.8 Cologne. Its actually bored out 30 over so it might be close to 3 liters. I've never liked the Essex motor, it didn't seem to like to rev. As for the doors, they're stock, even have the door cards still. Everything else is drilled though. It only weighs 2200 pounds since all the body panels are fibre glass. Have a picture of the front and engine.

Oh k, never had anything to do with the Ford v6's. That triple stack is sweet. Its a tough looking car. Thanks for the effort on the replys, the pictures and the stories. Its great to see someone passionate about their cars and willing to teach others a thing or two :)
